Clay Pipe Necklace
Clay Pipe Necklace
There won’t be many folk wearing one of these and when you wear it, it is guaranteed to be a talking point. Two old clay pipe segments - the larger made in Gateshead and the smaller piece from Berwick upon Tweed in the north of England are the centerpieces to this smokin’ hot necklace! We’ve used some amusing white quartzite beads which resemble clouds of smoke along with grey agates. Clay pipes were first used in the late 16th century and were made from a brittle white clay. Because tobacco was expensive, they usually had small bowls. Customers would often buy them pre-filled, use and then throw them away as they would usually be damaged within one smoke.
